Man who targeted women walking alone has day in court

A man who terrorized multiple women in one St. Louis neighborhood is now heading to prison, in part, because the bravery of a victim and members of the community who took a stand in court.


Eric Dorn has been sentenced to nine years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.


In October and November 2013, Dorn committed the crimes of robbery and stealing. He specifically targeted women walking alone, sometimes in broad daylight. In each of his robbery counts, his victims fell to the ground and were injured. In every case, he took what didn’t belong to him.


“The defendant showed no regard for the safety and security of other people,” wrote Assistant Circuit Attorney Rachel Schwarzlose in court documents. “He simply took what he wanted without any regard for who he hurt in the process.”


Dorn pleaded guilty to all the charges against him. He had a prior record for burglary and had previously violated terms of probation. 


ACA Schwarzlose recommended he spend 15 years in prison. Monday, he was sentenced to nine years.


Members of the Tower Grove South community appeared in court to voice their concerns about this defendant. The Circuit Attorney’s Office applauds their participation in keeping their neighborhood safe.


The detailed facts in the cases are as follows:


On November 26, 2013, around 11:15 in the morning, a woman was walking near the 3900 block of Gravois when the defendant came up behind her and grabbed her purse. He pushed her to the ground in the process, causing cuts and scrapes to her knees. He was later found by police officers in the men’s room of a nearby store, with the victim’s purse.


On November 25, 2013 around 10:00 in the morning, a woman was walking near Chippewa and Giles Ave when Dorn approached her and grabbed her purse. The woman was wearing the strap across her body and he grabbed it so forcefully he pulled her to the ground. She had abrasions to her knees and her chin.


On October 12, 2013, around 11:40 p.m., a victim was just getting off work at a restaurant in the 3600 block of Grand. As she tried to unlock her car door, the defendant grabbed her purse, causing the victim to fall to the ground, injuring her knee.


On November 17, 2013, around 9 in the morning, the defendant snatched a phone from the hands of a female victim near the intersection of S. Grand and Utah.


On November 20th, 2013, around 6 p.m., a victim was working at a restaurant in the 3800 block of Gravois. She had plugged her phone in to charge behind a counter. Dorn went behind the counter to take the phone.
