The man who shot and killed an 18-year-old honor student has been found guilty of her murder by a St. Louis jury.

Richard Reynolds was accused of killing the young woman as she sat in a car with her boyfriend in the 5100 block of Highland Avenue in July of 2012.

Mary Pat Carl, Lead Homicide Prosecutor for the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, presented evidence in the trial showing that Reynolds and other men ambushed and fired into the car. The victim was shot in the face. She died from her injuries.

Family members of the victim were in court Thursday as the jury read their verdict.

Reynolds was convicted of murder, assault, two counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.

Reynolds is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole.

He will be sentenced May 7, 2015.
