ST. LOUIS, MO  (September 2, 2026) — A St. Louis jury found Curtis Sills, 45, guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder and armed criminal action for the April 2025 fatal shooting of 43-year-old Shaun Mooring in the City’s Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood.

On April 21, 2025, police found Mooring shot to death in the street near the 3400 block of North Market Street. Sills and Mooring knew each other, and surveillance footage showed them together leading up to the shooting. Investigators used Real Time Crime Center footage to track a brown Honda Accord from the area and identify Sills as the driver. Surveillance video later captured Sills placing a firearm beneath the vehicle’s hood. Police detained Sills and found Mooring’s orange wallet discarded near the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, investigators found blood and recovered a 9mm handgun from beneath the hood. The firearm matched the caliber of shell casings police recovered near Mooring, and investigators also found blood on Sills’ shoes. During an interview with police, Sills admitted that he possessed the vehicle and firearm and that he had been at the scene of the homicide, but he gave conflicting accounts of what occurred.

“Those who use deadly violence to settle conflicts leave families and communities to live with the consequences,” Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore said. “We will continue to relentlessly prosecute violent crime and seek a measure of justice for victims and their families.”

Sills has several prior felony convictions. In 2012, a judge sentenced him to 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for a drug trafficking conviction. Sentencing is scheduled for November 23, 2026.

General Felonies Unit Supervisor Timothy Wright, Chief of Homicide Tanja Engelhardt, and Assistant Circuit Attorney Andrew Costello prosecuted the case.
