Fox 2 News – A man who was a passenger in a stolen SUV that crashed into a minivan and killed five members of a St. Louis family in 2022 was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison.

According to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office, 22-year-old Walter Burton Jr. was sentenced for his role in a May 6, 2022 crash in the city's Academy neighborhood.

Prosecutors said Burton was one of three people inside a stolen Jeep Cherokee, alongside his driver and co-defendant Marshawn Stepney. Investigators said that car had been used in a series of vehicle break-ins across the St. Louis area.

Investigators said officers saw the Jeep speeding and weaving through traffic before it sideswiped an Infiniti near Delmar Boulevard and Union Boulevard. As the Infiniti tried to follow the Jeep, Burton fired shots from the SUV.
