Fox 2 News – A Northwoods man appeared in St. Louis Circuit Court Thursday to plead guilty to fatally shooting his roommate last year.

Marvin Byrd Jr., now 55, was sentenced to 17 years in state prison for killing Dwayne Thomas on Sept. 6, 2025.

Byrd and Thomas, who lived together, went to a friend’s house to watch college football in the 5700 block of Henner Avenue in the city's Walnut Park East neighborhood.

Thomas had purchased some supplies for the gathering, which angered Byrd, prosecutors said, because Thomas was not contributing financially to household or recreational drug expenses.
