ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office says it will not pursue criminal charges against a police officer who fatally shot a teenager in possession of a gun two years ago.

On June 18, 2024, an officer fatally shot Emeshyon Wilkins after police pursued a stolen SUV he occupied and Wilkins fled from the vehicle. The shooting happened on St. Louis Avenue near Whittier Street in The Ville neighborhood.

The shooting remains at the center of a lawsuit. An attorney representing Wilkins’ family says he was ordered to drop a gun before an officer fired several shots, but alleges the object in question was a cell phone instead of a gun.
