Jury Convicts Man in 2024 Bevo Mill Shooting
March 5, 2026

ST. LOUIS, MO  (March 5, 2026) — A St. Louis jury found Jamon Antwan Carter, 23, guilty Thursday of first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon for a shooting that occurred April 30, 2024, in the 4600 block of Gravois Avenue in the City’s Bevo Mill neighborhood.

For nearly a year before the shooting, the defendant’s female relative harassed a 26-year-old woman who had previously dated his relative. After the woman ended her relationship with Carter’s relative, she began dating a 25-year-old man. On April 30, 2024, the woman and the man went to an apartment building in the 4600 block of Gravois Avenue after they discovered damage to the man’s 2017 BMW. While the female was outside the building, she encountered Carter, who was armed with an AR-type firearm. Carter fired one shot toward the woman’s foot and then fired multiple rounds into the BMW while the 25-year-old man was sitting inside. The 25-year-old man drove away in the BMW while the 26-year-old woman fled on foot. After several blocks, the BMW became inoperable, and the two met near the vehicle. Carter arrived and struck the BMW. Carter fired additional shots through the BMW toward one of the victims.

The 25-year-old man and the 26-year-old woman took cover inside a nearby business. Surveillance video captured the second shooting, and audio recordings captured the earlier gunfire. Officers recovered shell casings that matched the victims’ accounts.

“When someone decides to settle a dispute with bullets, they put not only the people involved but entire neighborhoods at risk,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “We will continue working to hold those who choose gun violence accountable.”

Sentencing is scheduled for April 17, 2026.

Chief Trial Attorney Jeremy Crowley and Assistant Circuit Attorney Lydia Stewart prosecuted the case.

The defendant’s case number is 2422-CR01513-01.
