ST. LOUIS, MO (October 9, 2026) — A City of St. Louis jury found Khalif Henderson, 26, guilty Friday of second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Samuel Reece in the City's Mount Pleasant neighborhood in September 2020.
On September 27, 2020, Reece was riding his bicycle near a gas station in the 4300 block of South Broadway when he encountered several individuals in a Kia Soul. Henderson and his co-defendant, James Brown, exited the vehicle and opened fire on Reece before fleeing the scene. Several individuals drove Reece to a hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival from his gunshot wounds. Investigators recovered cartridge casings from two different firearms at the scene. A witness who rode in the Kia Soul identified Henderson and Brown as the shooters.
"No personal grievance justifies taking another person's life," said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. "The defendant chose to settle a grudge with gunfire, and a family lost someone they can never replace. That is the devastating consequence of choosing gun violence over restraint."
Henderson qualified for jury sentencing. The jury recommended a sentence of 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Henderson's sentencing is scheduled for November 23, 2026.
General Felonies Unit Supervisor Timothy Wright, Assistant Circuit Attorney Michael Ware, and Chief Trial Attorney Jeremy Crowley prosecuted the case.
Henderson's case number is
2322-CR03015-01. Brown’s case number is
2322-CR03006-01.
