ST. LOUIS, MO (October 15, 2026) — Maurice Randolph, 68, was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for first-degree assault of a special victim and first-degree burglary in connection with a violent 2023 home invasion that left a 74-year-old woman seriously injured in the City's St. Louis Place neighborhood.
On October 8, 2023, Randolph entered the victim's apartment in the 3000 block of North 23rd Street and violently attacked her. The woman was inside her home when Randolph began choking, striking, and biting her face and ears. The attack was interrupted when the victim's 54-year-old son arrived to drop off groceries. Upon entering the apartment, he heard Randolph threatening his mother and found him standing over her, continuing the assault. The son immediately intervened, using a can of tomatoes to fight off Randolph before subduing him and holding him until police arrived. Officers found the victim suffering from serious injuries. Emergency responders transported her to a hospital for medical treatment.
The victim's son showed extraordinary courage when he put himself in harm's way to protect his mother,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “His actions may very well have saved her life. This defendant's repeated criminal conduct demonstrates why we must aggressively prosecute violent crime and protect our community from those who pose a threat to public safety."
Randolph has prior convictions for burglary, stealing, and drug offenses, including a 2008 conviction for first-degree burglary and felony theft that resulted in a 15-year prison sentence.
Violent Crime Unit Supervisor Adam Field prosecuted the case.
The defendant’s case number is
2322-CR02397-01.
