ST. LOUIS, MO  (August 4, 2026) — The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office (CAO) is now accepting applications for its Fall 2026 Citizens Academy, a six-week program that gives participants an in-depth look at how the criminal justice system operates in the City of St. Louis. Applications will be accepted from August 4 through September 1, 2026.

Beginning September 30, the Citizens Academy will meet every Wednesday evening through November 4. Throughout the program, participants will engage with assistant circuit attorneys, investigators, victim advocates, and other members of the Circuit Attorney's Office to better understand the work involved in reviewing evidence, making charging decisions, prosecuting cases, and supporting victims and witnesses.

In addition to classroom discussions, participants will tour key locations and hear from criminal justice partners to gain a broader understanding of how agencies work together throughout the life of a criminal case. The program is designed to answer questions, provide context about the prosecution process, and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue between the community and the Circuit Attorney's Office.

"The criminal justice system works best when the public understands how it functions," said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. "The Citizens Academy gives community members the opportunity to see our work firsthand, ask questions, and engage directly with the people responsible for carrying out our mission every day. We hope participants leave with a greater understanding of the challenges, responsibilities, and decisions that come with pursuing justice."

The Citizens Academy is open to Greater St. Louis area residents aged 18 or older. There is no cost to participate.
