Woman Pleads Guilty to Fatally Stabbing Neighbor
July 29, 2024

Sentenced to 15 years in Prison

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 26, 2024) — Michelle B. Mitchell, 48, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for fatally stabbing her neighbor, 56-year-old Robin Bonds, in an apartment in the 4200 block of Michigan Avenue in the city’s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood. The murder occurred July 18, 2022.

Mitchell told police she stabbed Bonds during an argument. Police found a trail of bloody footprints between Bonds’ apartment on the third floor of the building and Mitchell’s apartment on the fourth floor.

Mitchell's case was set for trial this week. Prosecutors reduced the original charge of first-degree murder to second-degree murder and dismissed one count of armed criminal action in exchange for Mitchell’s guilty plea. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison and will receive about two years’ credit for jail time served since her arrest.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Circuit Attorneys Christopher Faerber and Kerri Davis.
