Family, NAACP Demand Answers in St. Louis Jail Death
April 15, 2026

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Family members of Dametria McDile, the woman who died in custody at the St. Louis Justice Center on Jan. 31, say they are still searching for answers.

“They refused to help her, and then we ended up getting a phone call that she has possibly passed,” said Chanel Weems, McDile’s cousin. “Didn’t nobody really know what was going on?”

Weems, now the guardian of some of McDile’s children, said the family has hired an attorney as they push for answers. She said no one has told the family what McDile died from.
