ST. LOUIS, MO (August 25, 2025) — A St. Louis man who fatally shot another man outside a gas station in the Dutchtown neighborhood has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder on the day his trial was set to begin. Mohamed Abdi, 45, admitted to shooting and killing Jametric Alfonzo Steele, 52, of East St. Louis, on July 7, 2023, at a gas station located in the 4100 block of Gravois Avenue. Surveillance video captured the crime, showing Abdi confronting someone outside the store before turning on Steele and shooting him at close range. Steele attempted to run and hide behind parked cars but collapsed after suffering a fatal gunshot wound. “There is no real justice when there is such a senseless loss of life. What this sentence delivers is accountability and a measure of justice,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “Our office will continue to pursue cases like this with resolve, because holding those who commit acts of violence accountable is essential to achieving a higher level of public safety in St. Louis neighborhoods.” Abdi entered his guilty plea on Monday, August 25, 2025. He was sentenced to 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Assistant Circuit Attorneys Christopher Faerber and Dominic Cusumano prosecuted the case. Abdi’s case number is 2322-CR01593-01.
