Slmpd Forms Special Committee to Review 60 Use-of-force Cases Left Behind by Former Prosecutor
August 15, 2025

ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) - More than 60 use-of-force investigations were left in limbo by the previous circuit attorney’s office after the prosecutor resigned, including a school shooting.

First Alert 4 Investigates learned the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department formed a special committee to review dozens of use-of-force cases involving officers. One of those cases is the 2022 shooting at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School.

“The absence of a formal declination record under the prior Circuit Attorney is unacceptable and created a delay of more than 60 incidents being reviewed by Internal Affairs, which is not in alignment to the standards we should hold ourselves to,” SLMPD said in a statement.
