Circuit Attorney Shines Light Into Use-of-force Cases, Amidst Slmpd Wrongful Death Suit

ST. LOUIS—A week after video of a 2024 use-of-force incident that resulted in a St. Louis teenage suspect’s death and the city’s Circuit Attorney Office (CAO) explained to Spectrum News their process of handling those cases.


“When the CAO receives completed Force Investigative Unit (FIU) investigation reports, our process is to conduct a thorough review of the evidence and law to determine whether there is a basis for criminal liability,” stated a CAO spokesperson. “These investigations are complex and time-intensive, involving: extensive amounts of body camera footage; surveillance video; witness statements; legal issues related to the use of force; and other available evidence.”
