Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore Adds 5 More Experienced Assistant Circuit Attorneys
June 14, 2023

Four Have Previously Served in the Circuit Attorney’s Office; One Was a St. Louis County Prosecutor

ST. LOUIS, MO (June 14, 2023) — Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore continues to fill his team with experienced trial attorneys. These new attorneys will begin to move the backlogged cases through the legal system, a key priority in Gore’s new administration

The following attorneys are joining the Circuit Attorney’s Office:

  • Christopher Faerber
  • Allison Schreiber Lee
  • Terrence J. O’Toole, Jr.
  • Bret M. Rich
  • Sherry Wolk

“These attorneys each bring decades of trial experience and have collectively tried more than 120 felony cases. I am impressed by how many talented attorneys heard the call to public service and stepped forward so quickly,” said Gore. “Hiring experienced prosecutors who can hit the ground running is my highest priority. We are working hard to build a high-performing team of attorneys and support staff to serve the citizens of St. Louis.”

Ten attorneys have joined the office since Tuesday, May 30 when Gore took office. Four other experienced prosecutors are on loan from neighboring counties.

“Returning to the Circuit Attorney’s Office to help with the transition is a great honor,” said Sherry Wolk, who returned to the office and began work this past Monday, June 12. “It’s a tough job, but at the end of the day I know our team can make life safer for the wonderful people who live and work in St. Louis. I know we can help families and victims of violent crimes feel safer, see justice in action, and obtain some sense of closure.”

Faerber, Rich, and Wolk will join as Assistant Circuit Attorneys. Lee, a partner at Sandberg, Phoenix & Von Gontard, and O’Toole, a member at Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice, have been appointed Special Assistant Circuit Attorneys. Special Assistants maintain their full-time roles at their respective law firms and dedicate a set amount of pro bono hours prosecuting cases for the Circuit Attorney.

“We truly appreciate the support from our private law firm partners,” emphasized Gore.

Two previous Assistant Circuit Attorneys have already returned to the Circuit Attorney’s Office this week. Mary Pat Carl resumes her role as Chief Homicide Officer and Steven Capizzi is serving as Chief Warrant Officer. Both work in leadership roles as members of the Circuit Attorney’s Executive Staff.

ST. LOUIS, MO (January 09, 2026) — On Friday, a jury found Terron Young, 34, guilty of first-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon in the killing of 32-year-old Anthony Jefferson. On February 2, 2024, Jefferson was shot outside an event space in the 4700 block of Martin Luther King Drive in St. Louis. Officers responded to a report of a shooting outside the club, where Jefferson was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He later succumbed to his injuries. Through a coordinated investigation led by SLMPD Homicide Detectives, with assistance from FBI task force officers, investigators determined that it was a targeted shooting. Young and Jefferson were involved in an ongoing feud. On the night of the murder, Young drove to the location from which the fatal shots were fired while co-defendants arrived in a separate vehicle. Surveillance footage captured Young’s vehicle fleeing the area from which the fatal shots were fired immediately after the shooting and traveling toward a co-defendant’s residence. Investigators recovered spent cartridge casings from a field near the location from which the fatal shots were fired. During a search of the co-defendant’s residence, investigators recovered ammunition consistent with the cartridge casings found at the scene. “This outcome reflects the extensive work of our prosecutors, along with SLMPD Homicide Detectives and FBI task force officers, who investigated this complex case and presented it to the jury over the course of a week-long trial,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “As a result of an effective collaborative investigation by state and federal law enforcement, we were able to hold the defendant accountable for a cold-blooded targeted killing and obtain a measure of justice for the victim’s family.” Young faces mandatory life in prison without the possibility of parole. His sentencing will be set for a later date. Homicide Unit Deputy Chief Carolyn Chkautovich and Assistant Circuit Attorneys Nicholas Hirst and Ryan Dowd prosecuted the case. The defendant’s case number is 2422-CR00597-01.
