Izel Nash Pleads Guilty to Second-Degree Felony Murder
October 1, 2024

ST. LOUIS, MO (October 1, 2024) — Izel Nash, 30, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree felony murder in the death of 35-year-old Alonzo Jones during an attempted robbery on May 6, 2023, in the 1500 block of Destrehan in the city’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Nash was sentenced by 22nd Circuit Judge Annette Llewellyn to 18 years in prison, with credit for time served since his arrest in 2023.

On May 6, police were called to the 1500 block of Destrehan where they found Jones dead with a gunshot wound to the chest. A preliminary investigation found that two victims had been unloading their car when Jones tried to rob them at gunpoint. One of the victims, a 31-year-old man, pulled out a pistol and exchanged gunfire with Jones, killing him. The victim was shot in the exchange with Jones. Nash also fired at the witness, wounding him. The other victim of the attempted robbery, a 30-year-old woman, was not injured. Nash and the driver of a getaway car got out of their vehicle to pick up Jones, but realizing he was dead left his body on the ground and fled. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

In Missouri, a person commits felony murder if he or she commits or attempts to commit any felony, and, in the perpetration or the attempted perpetration of such felony or in the flight from the perpetration or attempted perpetration of such felony, another person is killed as a result.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Circuit Attorneys Andrew Costello and Adam Field.

Nash’s case number is 2322-CR01267-01.
