Man Found Guilty in Fatal Reckless Street Racing Crash
July 30, 2025

ST. LOUIS, MO (July 30, 2025) — On Wednesday, a jury found Jaron Sims, 37, guilty for his role in a reckless street race through North City that ended in tragedy. Sims was found guilty of second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree assault following a three-day jury trial. Sims represented himself during the trial.

The charges arise from a fatal crash that occurred on July 8, 2022, in the 2000 block of St. Louis Avenue in the City’s St. Louis Place neighborhood. Evidence at trial showed that Sims was racing another vehicle eastbound on St. Louis Avenue when both drivers ran a red light at North 20th Street. Sims struck a vehicle occupied by 60-year-old Adrianne Holloway, a two-year-old, and the child’s 40-year-old father. Holloway was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and died three days later. The child also suffered serious physical injuries.

“The defendant’s decision to recklessly race on public streets turned the public roads into a danger zone and had devastating consequences for innocent victims. This conviction reflects our commitment to holding individuals accountable when their reckless driving shatters lives,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore.

Sims has prior felony convictions, including assault, robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon. While in custody awaiting trial in this case, Sims was charged in a separate matter for allegedly assaulting a corrections officer. His sentencing is scheduled for October 9, 2025.

Assistant Circuit Attorneys Timothy Wright and Nicholas Hirst prosecuted the case.

Case Number: 2322-CR00277-01.
