Man Found Guilty of Attempted Robbery At Downtown Metro Station
November 6, 2025

ST. LOUIS, MO  (November 6, 2025) — In a bench trial, Judge Clinton R. Wright found Marvin Young Jr., 25, guilty Thursday of first-degree attempted robbery, armed criminal action, third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.

On May 1, 2024, Young approached a man as he exited the MetroLink at the Laclede’s Landing station in Downtown. Young took the victim’s phone from his shirt pocket but dropped it, allowing the victim to retrieve it. Young then grabbed the victim’s bag and refused to let go, forcing the man toward a stairwell. At the bottom of the stairs, Young pulled a handgun from his satchel, pointed it at the victim’s head, and demanded his property. The victim escaped and fled.

Metro surveillance cameras captured the attempted robbery. Officers reviewed the footage and tracked Young as he reboarded the train and later exited at the Civic Center Metro Station. When officers approached to arrest him, Young tried to flee. Officers subdued him after a struggle and recovered a firearm from his bag. During the arrest, Young headbutted a police sergeant, breaking the officer’s glasses and causing facial injuries.

“The evidence in this case speaks for itself,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “The defendant’s actions endangered innocent people using public transit, and this verdict reinforces that those who commit violent crimes in our community will face the full consequences of their actions under the law.”

Sentencing is scheduled for December 18, 2025. Young faces a minimum of ten years in prison.

Assistant Circuit Attorneys Allan Kaiser and Emily K. Price prosecuted the case.

The defendant’s case number is 2422-CR01281-01.
