Argument Over Gun Leads to Fatal Shooting

ST. LOUIS, MO (April 12, 2024) — Brad Anthony Evans, 34, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and will serve ten years in the Department of Corrections for fatally shooting his brother, Kenneth James Evans, 37, on February 4, 2023, in the 100 block of Bellerive Boulevard in the City’s Carondelet neighborhood.

The brothers were in Kenneth’s apartment arguing over a gun they had purchased together, as well as a woman Kenneth had been dating. About 3 p.m. the brothers left the apartment and got into their cars parked on Bellerive Avenue near the intersection with Broadway Avenue. Brad attempted to drive away, but Kenneth’s car blocked his path. Brad then shot through the window of Kenneth’s car, striking him twice in the chest, and drove away.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Circuit Attorney Kerri Davis. Evans had originally been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, but the charges were amended to obtain his guilty plea.

“A momentary outburst of anger resulted in a senseless death,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “This is a tragic outcome for the family of these two men.”
