Argument Over a Container of Yogurt Led to Shooting

ST. LOUIS, MO (November 30, 2023) — Kajuan Ali Daniels-McMillan, 21, pleaded guilty Monday to shooting a nine-year-old in the back after an argument over a container of yogurt spun out of control on December 17, 2021. The child, Tyrell Dickerson, was taken to the hospital, treated, and released. Daniels-McMillan had been charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Armed Criminal Action.

The evening of the shooting, Daniels-McMillan got into an argument with his brother, Khepra Daniels-McMillan, over a yogurt and leftovers at a home in the 4600 block of North 20th Street in the College Hill neighborhood where Tyrell lived with his family. When the brothers began yelling and threatening one another, Tyrell’s mother, Elizebeth Wilcox, called 911. As Daniels- McMillan left the house, he fired four shots through the door. Shrapnel from the shots struck the child in the back as he was trying to lock the door. Daniels-McMillan was not apprehended by police until three months after the shooting.

“This senseless shooting is a reminder of how quickly personal conflicts can escalate when a gun is part of the equation,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “I am grateful that our office was able to hold the defendant accountable for irresponsible behavior that harmed an innocent child trying keep his home secure.”
