Man Receives 40-Year Sentence in Deadly Street Racing Crash
September 19, 2025

ST. LOUIS, MO  (September 19, 2025) — On Friday, a judge sentenced Jaron Sims, 37, to 40 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for causing a reckless street race in North St. Louis that left one person dead and others injured.

On July 30, 2025, a jury found Sims guilty of second-degree murder, second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, and two counts of armed criminal action following a three-day trial. Sims chose to represent himself during the proceedings.

The crash happened on July 8, 2022, in the 2000 block of St. Louis Avenue in the St. Louis Place neighborhood. Evidence at trial showed Sims raced another vehicle eastbound when both drivers ran a red light at North 20th Street. Sims struck a vehicle carrying 60-year-old Adrianne Holloway, a two-year-old child, and the child’s 40-year-old father. Holloway sustained critical injuries, and she died three days later. The child also suffered serious injuries.

“The defendant turned St. Louis streets into a racetrack, and his reckless actions claimed the life of a grandmother while injuring a father and his young child. While no sentence can undo this tragedy, I hope today’s outcome provides some measure of solace to the family,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore.

Sims has multiple prior felony convictions, including assault, robbery, and unlawful use of a weapon. While he awaited trial in this case, prosecutors also charged him in a separate incident for allegedly assaulting a corrections officer.

Assistant Circuit Attorneys Timothy Wright and Nicholas Hirst prosecuted the case.

Case Number: 2322-CR00277-01.
