Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Killing in Kingsway East Neighborhood
July 16, 2025

ST. LOUIS, MO  (July 16, 2025) — A man who shot and killed another man on a North City street late last year has admitted guilt. Deandre Johnson, 31, pled guilty Wednesday to voluntary manslaughter and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the December 15, 2024, killing of 22-year-old Kyle Fitzgerald. He was sentenced to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.

The shooting occurred on the 3500 block of St. Louis Avenue in the City’s Kingsway East neighborhood. Surveillance footage from a nearby convenience store captured Johnson shortly before the shooting. A separate outdoor camera later showed flashes of gunfire and a person fleeing the scene.

A person identified Johnson through his social media profile. A witness later told detectives that Johnson had privately admitted to the shooting.

“A young man lost his life in a street shooting. Holding the responsible individual accountable is essential to protecting our neighborhoods and ensuring public safety for all residents,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore.

At the time of the killing, Johnson was on federal supervised release for a prior unlawful firearm possession conviction. He also has multiple prior felony convictions, including tampering, resisting arrest, and property damage.

Assistant Circuit Attorney Christopher Faerber prosecuted the case.

The defendant’s case number is 2522-CR00481-01.
