Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Tracking and Shooting Ex’s Boyfriend

ST. LOUIS, MO  (August 18, 2025) — Troy Devante Story, 30, received a 22-year sentence in the Missouri Department of Corrections after he pled guilty to assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action on Monday.


On November 3, 2023, Story tracked his ex-girlfriend's location through an app, drove to the 4600 block of Korte in the City's Penrose neighborhood, and opened fire on her and her boyfriend as they sat in an Alfa Romeo. His ex-girlfriend sat in the driver's seat, and her boyfriend sat in the passenger seat. A bullet struck the male victim in the temple. Story continued shooting at both victims as his ex-girlfriend attempted to drive them to safety.


Investigators recovered evidence showing the passenger and rear windows of the Alfa Romeo had been shot out. The victim identified Story as the shooter in a photo lineup. Story confessed during questioning and admitted that anger over the breakup motivated the shooting.


"We will aggressively prosecute gun violence that results from inter-personal disputes to the fullest extent of the law," said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. "This sentence holds the defendant accountable and ensures that he will not continue to pose a threat to public safety."


Assistant Circuit Attorney Carley Johansson prosecuted the case.


The defendant's case number is 2322-CR02669-01.
