October 25, 2024

ST. LOUIS, MO (October 25, 2024) — Cleveland V. Washington Jr., 22, was sentenced to 45 years in prison for second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the shooting death of Deionta McCurry, 23, in the 3600 block of Montana Street in the city’s Dutchtown neighborhood on August 21, 2022. The shooting stemmed from an argument between the two men over money from stolen catalytic converters.

St. Louis Circuit Judge Christopher E. McGraugh accepted the jury’s recommended sentence of 30 years for second-degree murder plus 15 years to be served consecutively for armed criminal action.

The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant Circuit Attorney Gordon Ankney, senior counsel at the law firm of Thompson Coburn LLP, and Assistant Circuit Attorney Grant Simon.

Washington’s case number is 2222-CR01279-01.

Washington also has a pending case charging him with holding a 73-year-old city jail guard hostage during a violent incident at the City Justice Center in August of 2023.
