Judge Adds Six Years to 15-Year Sentence

ST. LOUIS, MO (June 20, 2024) — Natasha S. Wysinger, 34, pleaded guilty Thursday to involuntary manslaughter in the March 2021 death of her daughter, Janiyah Bailey. Wysinger was already serving 15 years in prison for repeatedly abusing the child in 2014, resulting in severe brain injuries that eventually led to her death.

As recommended by prosecutors, 22nd Circuit Court Judge David Roither gave Wysinger an additional six-year prison term to be served consecutively with her 15-year sentence. Wysinger had been charged with second-degree murder, but prosecutors amended the charge in exchange for her guilty plea.

“This is a sickening, tragic case,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “It was important that the mother acknowledge her culpability and be held fully accountable for her child’s horrific suffering and untimely death.”

The case was prosecuted by Special Victim Unit Supervisor Jeremy Crowley and Assistant Circuit Attorney Nicholas Fischbach.
