Romello Thomas Sentenced to 20 Years for 2018 Shooting

ST. LOUIS, MO (January 11, 2024) — 29-year-old Romello Thomas pleaded guilty today to murder in the shooting death of Kourtney Steed, 27, on December 23, 2018, in the 5900 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in the Carondelet neighborhood.


Thomas went to a house on Pennsylvania where his relatives lived. His cousin, Steed, answered the door and Thomas confronted him with a firearm and shot him several times. After the shooting, Thomas fled. An off-duty Northwoods police officer nearby heard the shots, chased Thomas on foot and arrested him.


Thomas originally had been charged with first-degree murder, several firearms violations and resisting arrest. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to serve 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections.


The case was prosecuted by Assistant Circuit Attorney Kerri Davis.
