Second District Burglaries Plummet After Arrest of Prolific Thief
May 22, 2024

More than 250 Charges Filed Against Gage Luttman

ST. LOUIS, MO (May 22, 2024) — More than 250 charges have been filed against Gage Luttman, 36, for a series of burglaries committed throughout St. Louis in 2023 and 2024. Since his arrest  and confinement at the City Justice Center, burglaries have plummeted in the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Second District, police said. The Second District includes the neighborhoods of Botanical Gardens, Cheltenham, Clayton/Tamm, Clifton Heights, Ellendale, Forest Park, Forest Park Southeast, Franz Park, Hi-Point, Kings Oak, Lindenwood Park, McRee Town, North Hampton, Shaw, Southwest Garden, St. Louis Hills, The Hill, Tiffany, Tower Grove Park, Tower Grove South, Wilmore Park, Wydown/Skinker and portions of South Hampton.

Over a period of seven months, Luttman burglarized numerous storage units, basements, businesses, and garages. He was captured on surveillance cameras multiple times at the crime scenes, and with stolen items at his residence in Hillsboro. A search warrant executed at Luttman’s home resulted in the recovery of thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen items including: lawn tools, fishing equipment, bicycles, videogames, watches, jewelry, firearms, musical instruments, laptops, televisions, a Vespa scooter, Hyundai and Citroën automobiles, liquor and a Budweiser sign.

Luttman often used stolen vehicles to commit his crimes. His most common methodology was to saw off the locks from storage units or force open garage doors and steal the contents. Luttman stole the items to sell for cash to buy drugs. Because he is a prior and  persistent offender with previous felony convictions, some of the charges against him could be upgraded, carrying longer sentences.

A date has not been set for Luttman’s trial.

“We are relieved to put an end to this one-man crime spree and restore a sense of security to the residents of many City neighborhoods,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore.
