Teen Speeding in Maserati Guilty In 2017 Death of St. Louis Truck Driver
December 30, 2023

ST. LOUIS, MO (November 30, 2023) — A jury found Mahdi Salah Gayar, 23, guilty Wednesday of first-degree involuntary manslaughter in the Dec. 9, 2017, traffic death of 62-year-old Daniel Gregory Domian.

Gayar, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, was driving his 2008 blue Maserati GranTurismo at almost three times the posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour on Gravois Avenue when he hit the pickup truck driven by Domian, an asphalt contractor, who was turning onto Kings Drive in the Princeton Heights neighborhood where he lived.

Gayar has a long history of reckless driving in densely populated areas, including Clayton, Town and Country, Sunset Hills, Shrewsbury, and Bella Villa. His traffic violations include multiple speeding violations, careless and imprudent driving, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without a license, driving without insurance, and driving with expired license plates.

Gayar waived jury sentencing and will be sentenced by St. Louis Circuit Judge Clinton R. Wright on January 19, 2024. The penalty for first-degree involuntary manslaughter is up to ten years in prison with a fine up to $5,000.

“This bereaved family had to wait six years for justice,” said Circuit Attorney Gabe Gore. “It is our hope that this outcome will finally give them closure.”

The case was prosecuted by Chief Trial Attorney Marvin Teer Jr. and Assistant Circuit Attorney Jeffrey Estes.
