September 6, 2024

ST. LOUIS, MO (September 6, 2024) — Myah Blankinship, 23, was sentenced to 15 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for shooting a co-worker on September 26, 2023. The sentence imposed by 22nd Judicial Circuit Judge Thomas A. McCarthy includes 12 years for first-degree assault plus three years for armed criminal action. Blankinship pleaded guilty in July.

Blankinship and Mikita Williams, 30, worked at a Family Dollar store in the 2700 block of North Florissant Avenue in the city’s Old North neighborhood. The two women had been involved in an ongoing personal conflict. On the day of the shooting, a verbal argument turned into a physical altercation and punches were exchanged. As Williams was leaving the store, Blankinship pulled a handgun from her purse and shot Williams in the head, fracturing her jaw. Williams’ young son and nephew were standing next to her when she was shot. The incident was captured on video.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Circuit Attorneys Grant Simon and Michael Ware.
